Brewing news UK: Marston’s discretely supplied beer for the Big Brother show

Burton’s famous Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries-owned Marston’s brewery has been the sole beer supplier for this year’s Big Brother competition on UK Channel 4, Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries, PLC released August 23.

Marston’s provided the popular Channel 4 show with over 800 bottles of Resolution but due to a signed contractual agreement between W&DB and C4, couldn’t make a public announcement until the programme had finished.

Justin Way, WDB Marketing Manager said: “It was an opportunity that we just couldn’t miss. Big Brother has a huge following and is shown on prime time TV. The housemates enjoyed drinking our low carb bottled beer and we hope that if nothing else, their taste buds have been educated!”

The beer was often centre stage – with regular arguments about who had drank the most – so much so that one of the high points of the show was the ‘beer gate’ scandal. Justin explained: “Nicky enjoyed Marston’s Resolution so much that she hid a bottle under her pillow, fellow contestant Mikey later stole it and drank it and all mayhem broke out, it was one of the highlights of Big Brother 7.”

At 4.7% ABV, Marston’s Resolution is a full flavoured bottled beer with all qualities a drinker would expect from Marston’s, yet it has a third less carbohydrates (1.65g) and calories (85) than any other ‘low-carb’ beer brand.

Marston's have been producing beers since 1834. The company recently noted that the latest addition to the Marston's family, Marston's Pure Blonde 4.2% ABV, will be available for the first time ever during the months of July and August.

Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries, PLC is the UK's leading independent brewing and pub retailing business. It operates three breweries - Park Brewery in Wolverhampton (brewing Banks's, Hanson's and Mansfield beers), Marston's Brewery at Burton on Trent and Jennings Brewery at Cockermouth in the Lake District.

Its pub estate totals 2,352 pubs - 1,904 tenancies within The Union Pub Company and 448 directly managed by Pathfinder Pubs. It brews some of the UK's leading ale brands including Marston's Pedigree, Jennings, Banks's Bitter, Banks's Original, and Mansfield Bitter.

Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries’s award-winning ales collected five international brewing medals at the Millenium International Brewing Awards. Key developments in the last decade have enabled The Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries, PLC to position itself as the UK's premier regional brewer.
